Rain Returns Over The Weekend

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today**

DRY THROUGH FRIDAY: No change in the forecast thinking… dry through Friday with a day to day warming trend. Afternoon highs will be mostly in the low 70s.

WEEKEND: Clouds will thicken Saturday, and rain will move into West Alabama during the day. If you are going to the Alabama “A Day” game, you will need to take the rain gear since it now looks like rain is likely for areas along and north of I-59 by Saturday afternoon. No severe storms, and probably not much thunder, just rain. There is just a small risk of a shower for the scrimmage game at Jordan-Hare Stadium on the campus of Auburn University. Temperatures at both Tuscaloosa and Auburn will be in the upper 60s during the afternoon hours. We had initially forecast highs in the 70s, but it now looks cooler due to the clouds and showers.

Showers and storms will be more widespread statewide Saturday night and Sunday. The 12Z GFS is a little more aggressive for parameters for strong thunderstorms on Sunday; but the amount of instability is very much in question. Looks like most places will see one inch of rain, perhaps up to two inches in isolated spots.

NEXT WEEK: A deep upper trough will be over Alabama Monday; looks like a day with a mostly cloudy sky and a high only in the 50s, much like yesterday. Then drier air takes over with warmer temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday. For now it looks like the weather will remain dry into Thursday and Friday of next week, with some potential for showers returning the following weekend, which happens to be race weekend at Talladega. But, of course, that is all voodoo for now.
