A Brief “Weather By The Numbers” For Central Alabama’s Frigid Temperatures

The growing season has officially come to an end across Central Alabama as overnight low temperatures, for the most part, reached 28 degrees or below. Therefore, NWS Birmingham will no longer issue Freeze Watches, Freeze Warnings, or Frost Advisories until the 2019 growing season starts on March 15th. However, Hard Freeze Watches and Hard Freeze Warnings will be issued when temperatures are expected to drop to 15 degrees or less.

Here are some numbers of interest that occurred throughout the day on Thursday and into the early morning hours today…

0… Number of reporting stations across Central Alabama above 32 degrees. Also, the number of snow flurries that I saw at my house.

22… Low temperature this morning for Hamilton in Marion County.

24… Low temperature this morning for Haleyville and Double Springs in Winston County, Sardis City in Etowah County, Forney in Cherokee County, and Highland Lake in Blount County.

31… Number of degrees below normal that Birmingham’s high temperature reached on Thursday.

35… Thursday’s high for Birmingham that tied the record for lowest maximum temperature for November 15th.

36… Thursday’s high for Muscle Shoals that broke the record for lowest maximum temperature for November 15th.

37… The previous record for lowest maximum temperature for November 15th in Muscle Shoals.

66… Normal high temperature for November 15th in Birmingham.

120… Number of reporting stations listed on the NWS Birmingham Public Information Statement of Low Temperature Reports for November 16th.

12:23 am… Time that the high temperature for Huntsville was set on Thursday.

1916… Year that previous record for lowest maximum temperature for November 15th in Muscle Shoals was set.
