An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

CALMING DOWN: On a day when we didn’t have a classic severe weather set-up, it turned out to be a day of non-stop tornado warnings for 7 to 8 hours across Alabama yesterday and last night. Just another reminder of why I always say, when it comes to thunderstorms, expect the unexpected. Two people were killed in Alabama (one death near Priceville in Morgan County, another near Asbury in Marshall County), with significant damage in a number of counties. NWS survey teams will be out in full force today. See hundreds of pictures on our Flickr feed here; I will pick some of the better ones for a slide show a little later this morning.

TODAY AND TOMORROW: A deep upper trough will form over the eastern third of the nation, meaning generally cloudy and cool weather for Alabama. Highs today only in the mid 60s, and tomorrow I figure many places north of Birmingham won’t get out of the 50s. On top of that, I think we will need to mention some risk of a little light rain tomorrow with energy rotating through the base of the trough. Not much, but just be aware a few raindrops are possible.

WARMING UP: After the cool snap early in the week, the warmest weather so far this year is ahead by the end of the week and the weekend. Expect temperatures to soar into the low 80s by Thursday and Friday, with highs this weekend in the 81 to 84 degree range. Dewpoints will be rising as well, making for a summer-like feel to the weather this weekend. The GFS hints at some risk of isolated showers, but with little upward motion other than the daytime heating process, we won’t mention that in the forecast for now.

LONG RANGE: The storm track stays well to the north of the rest of April, so at this point we expect no additional severe weather problems through the rest of April; the GFS hints the next decent rain event will be in early May. Watch the Weather Xtreme video for details.
