Very Beautiful But Very Cold At Midday

| November 27, 2018 @ 12:01 pm

As the title of the post says, it is a very beautiful but cold day across Central Alabama as of 11:35 AM on this last Tuesday of November. We have clear skies across the area, but temperatures are only in the mid-30s to the mid-40s from north to south. The cold spot is Haleyville at 34 degrees, while the warm spot is Troy at 45 degrees. Birmingham was only at 37 degrees.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE DAY: It will remain sunny but cold across Central Alabama for the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours. We’ll have winds out of the northwest averaging around 10 MPH with afternoon highs only topping out in the 40s. Wind chill values will be running around 5-7 degrees below the actual temperature. For tonight and through the overnight hours, skies will remain clear allowing the overnight lows to plummet into the 20s across much of the area with a few of the colder spots hitting the teens for an hour or two.

PLENTY OF SUN BUT CONTINUED COOL ON WEDNESDAY: Wednesday will be another beautiful day but afternoon highs will continue to struggle to climb into the upper 40s to the mid-50s across the area from north to south. Skies will remain mostly cloudy during the night with overnight lows in the upper 20s to the mid-30s.

CONTINUING TO WATCH THE MODELS FOR SATURDAY: The long-range models continue to show a possible severe weather event occurring this Saturday across the southeast, including much of North and Central Alabama. Looks like we’ll have plenty of shear and instability in place but the limiting factor may be the time of day that the storms are modeled to occur. At this point, the latest GFS is showing that the main window of stronger storms will be from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm. It is still too early for exact details on timing and on the threats, but at this point, damaging winds and a tornado or two may be possible. Stay up-to-date with the AlabamaWx Weather Blog throughout the week for updates on this developing situation.

THE TROPICS: All is quiet across the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea, and no new tropical cyclones are expected to form within the next 5 days. There are only 3 days remaining in the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
