Scroll down for pictures from yesterday’s severe weather outbreak, and survey results from the NWS in Birmingham. So far they have identified 4 tornado tracks within their county warning area. Two people were killed by storms last night up north across the Tennessee Valley; one death in Priceville, in Morgan County, and another near the community of Asbury, in eastern Marshall County.

TOMORROW: A deep upper trough forms over the eastern U.S. tomorrow; the sky will be mostly cloudy north of Birmingham, and mostly sunny south of Montgomery. A few sprinkles are not out of the question, but the 12Z models have come in pretty dry. The high should be in the 60s across North-Central Alabama, but some folks north of U.S. 278 could hold in the 50s all day with clouds and a cool breeze.

REST OF THE WEEK: We warm into the mid 70s by Wednesday, and low 80s are likely by Thursday and Friday as an upper ridge builds across the Deep South. The latest GFS MOS is printing 83 now for Birmingham on Friday, and I figure some places over West Alabama might see 85. No doubt the warmest weather so far this year.

WARM WEEKEND: Not much change for the weekend; very warm and dry with highs in the 81 to 85 degree range. Dewpoints will rise to near 60, making the afternoon warmth a little muggy, letting us know that summer can’t be too far away. No significant chance of rain this weekend.

VOODOO LAND: Looks like the primary mid-latitude jet stream over North America will remain well to the north through the first week of May, meaning generally warm and dry weather. We will probably have a few days with showers, but for now we don’t see any serious severe weather problems or major rain events with the upper ridge in control.
