Alabama Weather Update at 4:45 a.m.: Thunder, Heavy Rain Across the I-59 Corridor

| February 21, 2019 @ 4:51 am

Many of you are waking up to occasional thunder and heavy rain early this morning from a northeast-to-southwest oriented band of thunderstorms that is lifting slowly northward.

This activity is being aided by strong winds aloft and some instability in the mid-levels of the atmosphere.

Areas of heaviest rain so far shown in yellows and orange

It is not severe, but With moisture levels running very high, heavy rain could cause flooding. Areal flood advisories are in effect for Sumter County, and there are flood warnings over North Alabama where rainfall amounts have been heavier.

There could be some small hail during the morning, but no severe weather is expected.

Flood watches remain in effect as well.
