Midday Nowcast: Calm with Plenty of Sunshine

| March 18, 2019 @ 11:56 am

A weak, but dry front is pushing through the state today, and will be reinforcing the dry and cool air mass already in place across the state.

There is tons of sunshine across Alabama today as the very calm weather patterns continues.

After the chilly start to the day, temperatures have warmed up nicely at midday with mid to upper 50s being reported in most locations, and many spots should top out in the lower 60s this afternoon.

TONIGHT: For the most part the sky will remain clear tonight, with the exception of some upper level clouds. These conditions along with light winds will allow for a rather cold night across the state and temperatures should be a tad colder than they were this morning. For tomorrow morning, we project lows in the 29-35 degree range with frost likely…Growers beware!!!

FOR TOMORROW: A rinse and repeat kind of forecast for our Tuesday across the state. Expect an abundance of sunshine and cool temperatures as highs should be generally around the 60 degree mark.

REST OF WEEK: Wednesday will be the first day of spring as the vernal equinox occurs at 4:58 PM CDT, and the weather should be very spring-like. The sky will stay sunny Wednesday and we are forecasting highs in the mid to upper 60s. Late Wednesday night, the models are grabbing on to a weak disturbance swinging across the state and it could squeeze out a few sprinkles or light rain showers over the northern portions of the state, but with limited moisture to work with, rain amounts, if any, will be very light and spotty. Looking at the QPF output through Saturday, it just doesn’t look like Alabama will be seeing much in the way of wet stuff this week.

The day Thursday will feature more clouds than sun with a high in the low 60s. Then, on Friday, sunshine returns in full supply with a high in the upper 60s to lower 70s across North/Central Alabama.
