Apparent tornado in Madison

| May 6, 2009 @ 1:07 pm | 8 Replies

It appears that a tornado moved across Madison, Alabama this morning, a suburb of Huntsville. This is unofficial, but in talking with Kevin Knupp (who is surveying damage now) the tornado started near Greenbrier BBQ, then moved through Madison along a 7-mile track. It passed only 1/4 mile south of Kevin’s house. Significant damage in Madison, including trees and power lines, windows blown out of houses, and garage destroyed. Kevin estimates damage as EF1.

This storm, like the one that produced the tornado across Walker and Cullman counties, was simply at a break in the line of storms, different than the lone supercell storm.
