One More Dry Day Before Rain Returns Late Tomorrow Night

| April 3, 2019 @ 12:42 pm

At 12:20 PM, we have mainly clear skies across Central Alabama with some high and thin cirrus clouds floating over the central and southwestern parts of the area. Temperatures are up in the upper 60s to the lower 70s across the area with Tuscaloosa leading the charge at 72 degrees. Birmingham was at 68 degrees, while a few locations south of the Magic City were tied as the cool spots at 66 degrees.

Awesome weather will continue for the remainder of the afternoon and into the early evening hours, as we’ll continue to have mainly sunny skies with those thin cirrus clouds continuing to filter out just a minute amount of that sunshine. Highs will top out in the lower to mid-70s across the area. For tonight we’ll have a few extra clouds move across the area from sunset through the late night hours, but skies should begin to clear some during the overnight hours. Lows will dip down into the mid-40s to the lower 50s.

Just about the entire morning on Thursday looks to be dry at this point, but we’ll have scattered showers and thunderstorms start to move in starting right at or just before the midday hour before the main activity moves into the western parts of the area just before the evening rush hour. The activity will continue on throughout the evening and overnight hours. SPC has a Marginal risk up for locations west of a line from Addison (Winston Co.) to Irondale (Jefferson Co.) to Troy (Pike Co.) as there will be the threat of isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and some small hail. There is no mention of a tornado threat with this system, but with it being the prime part of our Spring Severe Weather Season, we’ll have to watch the storms closely. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 60s to the mid-70s, while overnight lows will be in the mid-50s to the lower 60s.
