Midday Nowcast: Very Warm Wednesday

| May 8, 2019 @ 11:30 am

A mixed sky of sun and upper-level cirrus clouds cover Alabama today. We are seeing temperatures into the 80s at midday, and by the end of the day, many spots will top out in the upper 80s.

Scanning the radar at midday, all is quiet in Alabama, but we will be watching for a few of those blips on the radar later today as a few isolated showers/storms are possible due to our increasing moisture levels. However, these will be few and far between and most of the state will remain dry.

For tonight, expect a mainly cloudy and very mild night with lows in the upper 60s. We will mention the chance for a few showers moving in from the west as a complex of storms to the west weakens as it moves into the state overnight.

TOMORROW: Much of tomorrow looks to be a pretty decent day of weather with increasing clouds and it will be a warm day with highs in the mid 80s. An approaching front late tomorrow will bring rain and storms back to West Alabama during the afternoon tomorrow, and then impacting the rest of the state during the evening and into the overnight hours. A few of these storms could be on the strong side and the SPC maintains areas north and west of Birmingham in a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for severe storms.

However, the better dynamics stay west of the state tomorrow and will be lifting well to the north tomorrow night so these storms should begin to weaken as they move through the state and the overall severe weather threat is low. Some of the stronger storms could produce small hail and gusty winds tomorrow evening.
