Puffy Clouds & Warm At Midday, Heat Cranks Up Later This Week

| May 20, 2019 @ 12:51 pm

We have some cumulus clouds forming in the heating of the day, but as of 12:40 pm, the radar is free of any rain at this juncture. Temperatures are already up in the upper 70s to the lower 90s across the area. Cullman was the cool spot at 78 degrees while the warm spot was Uniontown at 92 degrees. Birmingham is currently sitting at 81 degrees.

Much of Central Alabama will stay dry today but there will be a small chance of a few isolated showers and storms mainly over the southern half of the area. Skies will become partly cloudy throughout the hottest parts of the afternoon, but those clouds will begin to dissipate during the evening and late night hours. While a lingering shower or storm may be possible across the southeastern parts of the area tonight, nearly all of the rain activity will be over by sunset. Highs will top out in the mid-80s to the lower 90s with lows in the 60s across the area.

The heat begins to crank up as a strengthening ridge takes over our weather pattern through the end of the week and into the weekend. That means for us plenty of sunshine on Tuesday with highs reaching the upper 80s to the lower 90s. While that is hot, we’ll be even hotter reaching the mid-90s by Friday.
