An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below, and on iTunes…

As yo can see from John’s post below this one, we are celebrating a nice shower here at the TV station this afternoon (ABC 33/40 is in Riverchase, near the intersection of Riverchase Parkway and Valleydale Road). We picked up one third of an inch of rain (the exact total was 0.33″), but the sun is shining again as I write this.

There are other showers and storms in progress around the state, but they are widely scattered.

TO THE NORTH: A high risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes continues across much of Wisconsin, and adjacent parts of Iowa and Illinois. A moderate risk extends to the southwest, all the way to Tulsa and Oklahoma City. This major severe weather outbreak is expected in advance of a very dynamic storm system, which is moving from the Northern Plains up into Canada during the next 24 hours.

The trailing cold front will approach Alabama from the north, and should mean a general increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow night, and on Saturday. While the showers and storms will remain scattered, some neighborhoods could see one-half to one inch of rain. The chance of any one spot getting wet tomorrow and Saturday is about one in three.

We also note that SPC has the northwest part of Alabama in a slight risk of severe storms late tomorrow and tomorrow night.

Showers and storms will thin out considerably on Sunday and Monday as drier air works into Alabama from the north.

LONG RANGE: At this point we expect pretty routine summer weather next week; hot, muggy days with a chance of widely scattered showers or storms each afternoon. Highs mostly in the low 90s.

WEATHER PARTY: Get all the latest weather news over on our sister site, WeatherParty.com. Be sure and register while you are there; you can submit stories and vote on them to determine what is published on the front page. Some very interesting articles over there, including several on the current water supply issues across Alabama.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather hosted by David Black and featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.

I will have the next Weather Xtreme video posted by 7:00 a.m. tomorrow!
