Severe Storms Continue To March Across Western Portions Of North/Central Alabama

| June 20, 2019 @ 2:14 am

Since the last update, the line of storms on the leading edge of the MCS has ramped back up and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are up from the AL/MS state line all of the ways down to Greene and Sumter counties. The line continues to move to the east at around 50 MPH.

These storms are capable of producing damaging winds up to 60 MPH, along with some small hail, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, and a brief stint of heavy rainfall. The line will be in Tuscaloosa within the next 30 minutes and into the Birmingham metropolitan area within the next 90-120 minutes.

At this point, the line shows no sign of weakening as both NWS offices in Birmingham and Huntsville have been issuing large warnings well ahead of the line as it progresses to the east. We have good wind flow at the 925mb-850mb level that is replenishing the storms, plus there remains a good bit of instability over the western and central parts of North/Central Alabama.

If you are in the path of these storms and your location goes under a warning, seek shelter as if it was a tornado warning. We have already lost one life over in Mississippi due to a tree falling on a home.
