Drier Air Not Far Away

An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

STILL MUGGY TODAY: Not much change in our weather today; lots of moisture will mean scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms as the day wears on. A few tropical downpours are likely, with intervals of sunshine away from the showers. The high will be up in the low to mid 80s, and the humidity will remain sky high with dewpoints in the upper 60s.

DRIER DAYS NOT FAR AWAY: We believe the showers will begin to thin out tomorrow, and by Friday most of Alabama will be dry as continental air moves into the state from the north. We are still forecasting a dry weekend (for a change!) with sunny days, clear, cooler nights, and lower humidity levels. The dry air will heat up effectively, with highs well up into the 80s both days. The GFS is now printing 88 for Birmingham on Sunday, with some hint of 90 degrees for some West Alabama communities. But again, with the lower humidity, it won’t feel too bad. Early morning lows will dip into the 50s for the cooler spots.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like we stay dry Monday as we enter the month of June, but we will introduce a small risk of a shower by Tuesday afternoon. Then, for the rest of the week, very typical early summer weather is likely Wednesday through Friday with a daily risk of scattered, mostly afternoon showers and storms.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will record this week’s show tonight; it should be posted by 10:30 or so.
