WeatherReady Fest: A Fun & Free Educational Festival Coming Up In September

| August 20, 2019 @ 2:43 pm

COME LEARN ABOUT ALL THINGS WEATHER AT WEATHERREADY FEST
A fun and educational event for all ages at UAH in Huntsville, on Saturday, September 7, 2019

Weather preparedness is more important than ever. From knowing whether to bring an umbrella in the morning to feeling the effects of catastrophic weather events, understanding weather is crucial. Join top meteorologists, participate in fun activities, and see technology used to detect and predict the weather while learning useful preparedness and resilience techniques.

The National Weather Association Foundation’s WeatherReady Fest will take place at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Charger Student Union building. Family-friendly games, hands-on activities, and enlightening speakers will highlight this big, free one-day weather festival.

More information is available on the festival website at www.weatherreadyfest.com. Admission to the WeatherReady Fest is free. Guests are encouraged to get their free timed tickets at the website.

Adults will have the opportunity to hear leading meteorologists, tour the National Weather Service Office, and get a first-hand look at forecasting technology at SWIRLL. James Spann and author Willie Drye will be signing their books. There will be a National Weather Service SKYWARN training.

Kids will love playing weather games while collecting stamps in their very own WeatherReady Passport for the chance to win exciting door prizes. They will have a blast learning how to be a Young Meteorologist in a special program on the center stage. Weather Channel Meteorologist Nick Walker will lead a stage show singing songs about weather preparedness. Owlie Skywarn and other mascots will be there to pump up the energy.

Charles Dudley Warner is quoted as saying, “Everybody complains about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.” But here you will find all kinds of people who are doing something: experts who study hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, and more—to help keep people safe.

Festival Chair and President of The Weather Factory, Bill Murray said, “The perfect forecast has no value if the audience can’t act on it. WeatherReady Fest is designed to make exploring hazards and preparedness fun and interesting.”
