Could We See A Depression Off Of The Southeast US Atlantic Coast Soon?

| August 22, 2019 @ 2:59 pm

We may need to keep our eyes on the tropical disturbance that is currently over the Bahamas as winds at the surface are indicating that there is a low-pressure circulation starting. We may soon have a depression forming just off of the Florida Atlantic coastline. The National Hurricane Center has stated that some development is possible during the next few days while it moves northeast along the southeastern US coast just offshore.

While the GFS really doesn’t develop the disturbance throughout the end of the week and the weekend, the ECMWF is a little more progressive with development with a 1013 mb low forming on early Saturday morning and strengthening to 994 mb before it moves off of the animation on Tuesday morning.

At this point, the disturbance is battling a little wind shear, but once that calms down a little, some further development is possible. Just one thing we need to keep our eyes on as this could bring plenty of rain to the coasts of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
