Late Afternoon in Alabama

A “front” has pushed into Alabama today from the northeast and was down across Southwest Alabama late this afternoon.

We can’t call it a cool front for obvious reasons and we can’t call it a hot front, instead it is the leading edge of some slightly drier air pushing into Alabama. We may notice a slight drop in humidity tomorrow.

Meanwhile, it has triggered some thunderstorms. The main ones were over SW and extreme South Alabama from near Livingston and Butler down to about Monroeville and Evergreen. Those were moving toward the south.

However, up in NE Alabama there was a strong storm coming out of DeKalb County moving south into Etowah County. It was moving toward Gadsden, Attalla and Rainbow City with locally heavy rain. It is not a real large thunderstorm.

The strongest thunderstorm of all, as 5:30 p.m. approached, was near Starkville in East Mississippi. NWS/Jackson issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for that one until 6:00 p.m. It could be producing penny-size hail and gusts over 60.

A few smaller showers were over Marion County in NW Alabama and North Talladega County in East Alabama. They were moving south and seemed to be weaking.
