Freeze Warnings & Frost Advisories Issued For North & Central Alabama Through Saturday Morning

NWS Birmingham has issued a Freeze Warning starting tonight at 11:00 pm and is set to expire at 9:00 am Saturday morning for the following counties in Central Alabama: Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Etowah, Fayette, Jefferson, Lamar, Marion, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega, Walker, Winston.

NWS Birmingham has issued a Frost Advisory starting tonight at 11:00 pm and is set to expire at 9:00 am Saturday morning for the following counties in Central Alabama: Autauga, Bibb, Chambers, Chilton, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa.

• WHAT: Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 31 expected. Isolated locations may be cooler.

• WHERE: Portions of central, east-central, northeast, northwest and west-central Alabama.

• IMPACTS: Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them, and cover above ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

NWS Huntsville has issued a Freeze Warning starting tonight at 11:00 pm and is set to expire at 9:00 am Saturday morning for the following counties in North Alabama: Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, Morgan.

• WHAT: For both warnings, a prolonged period of air temperatures in the 28 to 32-degree range.

• WHERE: All counties in northern Alabama.

• IMPACTS: Widespread frost and subfreezing temperatures will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and could result in damage to unprotected outdoor plumbing.
