Noon Update: Sunday Clouds, Maybe a Few Showers; Mild Monday Ahead

| December 8, 2019 @ 11:53 am

As we approach the noon hour, temperatures are mostly warming into the lower 60s under a mostly cloudy to occasionally partly sunny sky. An increasing southeasterly breeze is occasionally gusting to over 20 mph at times. Parts of North and Northeast Alabama will remain in the upper 50s all afternoon, but most spots will be between 61-65F. Areas south of Montgomery will make it into the upper 60s. A few light showers or a little drizzle will pop up at times, but the rainfall generated will be light and spotty. The same trends will continue into tonight with a chance of a few showers and lows generally in the lower and middle 50s.

A few showers may continue into Monday morning, but it appears that most of the day will be dry across Central Alabama. Skies will be mostly cloudy again, with a few breaks of sunshine from time to time that will push the mercury into the upper 60s to lower 70s. It will be breezy again, with southeasterly winds gusting to over 25 mph at times.

By tomorrow, a powerful cold front will be gathering momentum over Kansas and Missouri. It will reach Kansas City by noon, and St. Louis by late afternoon. Ahead of it, showers will be increasing to our northwest and spreading into Northwest Alabama during the evening. The rain will continue increasing across the entire area during the overnight hours. Lows Monday night will be in the middle and upper 50s.

We will start the day around 60F on Tuesday in all parts of Alabama except for the Northwest Corner, where the front will have already sailed past. but temperatures will be falling throughout the day behind the front, which should reach the I-59 Corridor by 10 a.m. or so. It will bee a fairly miserable day, with periods of rain likely. Temperatures will fall into the 30s Wednesday night in areas along and north of I-59.

The rain will diminish from the northwest Wednesday and will be over mainly by noon in all areas. That’s good or otherwise we would be dealing with wintry precipitation. Temperatures will barely recover into the 40s during the day. There will be a biting northwesterly wind as well.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Thursday will be dry. Rain will creep back in from the southeast on Friday as a low traverses the Gulf of Mexico. Highs both days will be in the lower 50s.
