An Earlier Than Normal Midday Update

| December 20, 2019 @ 10:55 am

No, don’t worry… Just doing my midday update a little earlier today to finish up on some last-minute Christmas shopping and on some errands. As of 10:40 am, we do have some thin clouds floating overhead across Central Alabama filtering out just a little bit of sunshine at this point. Temperatures are in the mid-40s to the lower 50s. Gadsden was the cold spot at 45 degrees while Sylacauga, Montgomery, and Troy were tied as the warm spots at 52 degrees. Birmingham was not too far behind at 50 degrees.

Clouds will be on the increase throughout the remainder of the daylight hours and we will be just a tad warmer than on Thursday. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 50 for much of the area while a few locations in the northwest will only reach the lower 50s. For tonight, skies will be cloudy and we will have rain chances starting to increase after midnight over the southern parts of the area (mainly along and south of a line from Tuscaloosa to Clanton to Alexander City). Lows will be in the upper 30s to the lower 40s.

A low will be moving up over the Northern Gulf of Mexico on Saturday that will be bringing a good bit of rain to much of Central Alabama throughout the weekend. At this point, rain looks to be likely south of the I-20 corridor while we’ll still have good rain chances over the northern half. One or two claps of thunder may be possible, but no severe weather is expected. Winds could be breezy at times as the low moves closer to the Gulf Coast. Highs will be in the upper 40s to the lower 50s.
