A Quick Check On Our Weather At 2:15 AM; More Rain Moving In

At 2:10 am, heavier rain is moving into the northwestern parts of the area and will bring more aggravation to already occurring flooding issues. Light to moderate rain continues to fall over much of the rest of the northern half of the state.

Flash Flood Watches continue for the northern half of Central Alabama and all of North Alabama until 6:00 pm tonight.

A Flash Flood Warning was just issued for portions of Colbert, Franklin, and Lawrence counties until 4:00 am this morning.

The latest HRRR run shows a good decrease in coverage over the next few hours. The main rain shield over the northern parts of the state will move out and into north Georgia and eastern Tennessee while a tail of showers will continue to stream back to the southwest portions over the northern half of North/Central Alabama.

Nearly all of the activity looks to dissipate during the late morning hours today and we’ll mainly stay dry until around or just after midday when another batch of showers and storms look to move into the western parts of the area. Heavy rain looks to be possible over the I-20 and I-20/59 corridors once again during the later afternoon hours with the rest of the precipitation shield staying over North Alabama and the northern parts of Central Alabama. It should stay that way through Tuesday night at midnight.

The Storm Prediction Center has introduced a Marginal Risk of severe storms throughout the day today starting at 6:00 am. Isolated damaging winds gusts up to 60 MPH will be possible with any storms that could form over the risk locations. There is also a non-zero threat of a brief tornado, but that will be highly unlikely.
