A Quick Late-Night Check On Showers & Storms In North/Central Alabama

| March 12, 2020 @ 9:21 pm

As of 9:00 pm, we have some showers and a few embedded thunderstorms moving across the northwestern parts of North/Central Alabama. These storms produced gusty winds and some hail when they were back over in Mississippi and Tennessee, but they are lacking the “oomph” factor at the moment as there is very little instability to work with over the area. Movement is to the east-southeast at roughly 40 MPH.

A cold front will eventually start to work into the area during the overnight hours and throughout the day on Friday that will bring more showers and a few thunderstorms. Rain chances will remain the highest along and north of the I-20 corridor during the morning hours, but those chances drop during the afternoon and evening hours. No strong storms are expected at this time.

Friday’s forecast highs.

Locations north of the I-20 corridor may see the high temperatures reached during the early morning hours on Friday before steadily dropping through the rest of the day. This is not an arctic front as highs will range from the lower 60s to the upper 70s across the area from northwest to southeast, drop into the upper 40s to the upper 50s for the lows, and rise right back up into the lower 70s to the lower 80s on Saturday.

So, the bottom line for tonight… We may have a few claps of thunder to deal with along with the shower activity during the late-night and overnight hours, but you can go to bed not worried about severe weather. Have a great night.
