Dry For Most, But A Few Showers Are Out There At Midday

As of 11:30 am, we have a few light showers falling over the extreme northwestern parts of Central Alabama and across a good portion of North Alabama. We also have a few sprinkles falling along and around the I-20 corridor and over into parts of Walker County. The rest of North/Central Alabama is dry at this point.

Temperatures as of the 11:00 am Round-Up were in the upper 50s to the lower 70s across Central Alabama. Haleyville was the cold spot at 59 degrees while Selma was the warm spot at 72 degrees. Birmingham was at 66 degrees.

We’ll continue to have scattered to numerous light showers move across the northern half of the area with the highest chances occurring along and north of the I-20 corridor. Skies will remain mostly cloudy when not raining, but there could be a good bit of sunshine for the extreme southern parts of the area. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 60s to the mid-70s across the area around 1:00 pm and topping out in the lower 60s to the lower 80s. For tonight and through the overnight hours, a few spotty showers may linger around that will keep a very small chance of rain for much of the area, but some additional showers may begin to move into the extreme northern and northwestern parts of the area during the overnight hours. Lows will be in the lower 50s to right around 60 degrees across the area.

As far as severe weather goes for today, there is an enhanced risk for severe storms over the western parts of Texas as damaging winds up to 70 MPH, large hail in excess of 1 inch in diameter, and a few isolated tornadoes will be possible through the rest of today. No severe storms are expected in North/Central Alabama in the near future.

Just a heads up for the fans of racing, the NTT Indycar Series announced about an hour ago that they have cancelled all of their events through the end of April for the well-being of the fans, driver and teams, and support staff while the coronavirus is an issue.
