Record Lows
It’s shortly before 5 AM, and several records have already been broken around Alabama this Monday morning! Average low temperatures this time of year are around 70 degrees, but this feels a lot like late September (can anyone say football?)!
These lows are taken from hourly observations. The “official” low could be a degree or two cooler when the National Weather Service goes to look later on.
Anniston: Old Record 60 (1947)…Today: 56 Degrees
Tuscaloosa: Old Record 64 (2004)…Today: 60 Degrees
Birmingham hasn’t officially broken the record yet as the low so far is 61 degrees. The record at the airport is 60 (1947).
The coolest temperatures in the state are in Etowah, Cherokee, and DeKalb Counties with some spots reporting temps as low as 50-52 degrees. Our skywatcher Vic Bell up on Lookout Mountain in Scrougeout reports 53 at 4:45 AM!
