New Tornado Watch for Southern Mississippi & Southeastern Louisiana

A new tornado watch was just issued for several counties in the southern parts of Mississippi and for multiple parishes in southern and eastern parts of Louisiana through 8:00 pm tonight.

Tornadoes are possible, some of which could be strong to violent, long-track tornadoes. Hail up to lime size possible along with scattered damaging wind gusts up to 70 MPH.

Here is the text from the Storm Prediction Center:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Tornado Watch for portions of
South-central and eastern Louisiana
Southern Mississippi
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Sunday afternoon and evening from 125 PM until
800 PM CDT.

* Primary threats include…
A few tornadoes and a couple intense tornadoes possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
Isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY…A cluster of thunderstorms may evolve into a couple
discrete supercells with a risk for all hazards. The greatest
tornado threat should be near the Mississippi-Louisiana border area
in the late afternoon to early evening.

The tornado watch area is approximately along and 60 statute miles
north and south of a line from 30 miles northwest of Lafayette LA to
35 miles south of Pine Belt MS. For a complete depiction of the

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

REMEMBER…A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for
tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings.
