Flash Flood Warning: Walker, Tuscaloosa, Pickens, Greene, Jefferson, Sumter, Fayette Counties Until 11:30 PM

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Walker County in central Alabama…
Tuscaloosa County in west central Alabama…
Pickens County in west central Alabama…
Northern Greene County in west central Alabama…
Jefferson County in central Alabama…
Northwestern Sumter County in west central Alabama…
Southern Fayette County in west central Alabama…

* Until 1130 PM CDT.

* At 828 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have
already fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly as additional heavy rainfall occurs over the next few
hours.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other
drainage and low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood,
Northport, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Hueytown, Jasper,
Gardendale, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Fairfield, Fultondale, Sumiton,
Aliceville and Cordova.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
