Flood Warning: Extended For Talladega, Chilton, Shelby, Perry, Bibb, Coosa Counties Until 8:00 PM

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has extended the

* Flood Warning for Urban Areas and Small Streams in…
Southwestern Talladega County in east central Alabama…
Chilton County in central Alabama…
Southern Shelby County in central Alabama…
Northern Perry County in central Alabama…
Bibb County in central Alabama…
Coosa County in east central Alabama…

* Until 800 PM CDT.

* At 437 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
that heavy rain was falling over the area. The heavy rain will
cause flooding. 3 to 5 inches of rain have fallen throughout the
day and an additional 1 to 3 inches is possible over the next few
hours.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Alabaster, Sylacauga, Calera, Clanton, Montevallo, Brent,
Columbiana, Centreville, Jemison, Wilsonville, Goodwater,
Rockford, Kellyton, Weogufka, Thorsby, West Blocton and
Maplesville.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

    * At 153 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
    that heavy rain was falling over the area. Heavy rain from
    thunderstorms over the past several hours have led to rainfall
    totals up to 5 inches in some areas. Many creeks and streams
    remain over their banks.

    * Some locations that will experience flooding include…
    Alabaster, Sylacauga, Calera, Clanton, Montevallo, Brent,
    Columbiana, Centreville, Jemison, Wilsonville, Goodwater, Rockford,
    Kellyton, Talladega Springs, Weogufka, Equality, Stewartville,
    Thorsby, West Blocton and Maplesville.

    Additional heavy rainfall is possible over the warned area
    throughout the afternoon and evening.

    Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
    creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
    well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
