A Nice, Cool Midday in May, but Rain Makes a Return for Your Friday

| May 7, 2020 @ 12:26 pm

Other than a few fair-weather cumulus clouds dotting the skies over the northern half of Central Alabama, we have mainly sunny skies as we have reached the midday hour on this fine but cool Thursday. Temperatures as of the 12:00 pm round-up were in the 60s across the area.

We look to have sunny skies throughout the rest of the afternoon and early evening hours until the sun sets, but temperatures will remain below normal for this time of the year. Afternoon highs look to top out in the lower to mid-70s across the area.

For tonight through the overnight hours, we’ll have clouds and a few showers possibly moving into the western parts of the area around or just before the start of your late local news and eventually moving across the northern half of the area through the overnight hours. More rain and maybe a few claps of thunder will be expected to move in just after sunrise on Friday morning. Lows look to dip into the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

Showers and a few thunderstorms will be likely throughout much of the day on Friday as a cold front will be working through the area. The good news is that the air will be stable and strong to severe storms are not expected. It will be very breezy day with winds averaging 10-20 MPH out of the southwest ahead of the front and out of the north behind the front. Gusts are expected to be higher than that, so we’ll have to see if a Wind Advisory will be issued for parts or all of the area. Highs will range from the mid-60s in the northwest to the upper 70s in the southeast. All rain should be out of the area by the late local news.
