Dry for Now at Midday, Showers Expected to Form in a Little While

As of 12:15 pm, it is a clean sweep on the radar, but we are expecting that to change as we move later into the afternoon as we could see scattered showers and storms develop over the northern parts of Central Alabama. Temperatures were in the mid-60s to the lower 80s across the area as of the noon roundup. Troy was the warm spot at 80 degrees while Haleyville was at 65 degrees as the cool spot. Birmingham was at 71 degrees.

For the afternoon and into the evening hours, we are expecting some showers and maybe a few rumbles of thunder to form with the heating of the day across the northern parts of Central Alabama as we sit on the bottom side of an upper low located near the TN/KY state line very near to Murray, KY, and Puryear, TN. Those scattered showers and storms may continue into the late night and the early parts of the overnight hours. We also notice that showers may develop over the extreme southern parts of the area during the evening and overnight hours. Most locations in between the I-20 and I-85 corridors will stay dry today. Afternoon highs will range from the lower 70s in the northwest to the lower 80s in the southeast. All of the activity will diminish well before sunrise, but skies will stay partly to mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower 50s to the lower 60s.

That upper low continues to meander around just off to our northeast on Wednesday which will keep a decent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for the extreme northeastern parts of Central Alabama (mainly northeast of a line from Cullman to Ashville to Anniston). The rest of the area will remain dry with afternoon highs reaching the mid-70s to the lower 80s.
