Tropical Storm Bertha Forms Near the South Carolina Coast

| May 27, 2020 @ 8:36 am

The area of disturbed weather that moved out off the southeastern Gulf and was off the last coast of Florida yesterday has become much better organized this morning.

Offshore buoy reports indicated tropical storm-force winds and it was named as Tropical Storm Bertha a short time ago.

A tropical storm warning was posted from Edisto to South Santee River in South Carolina.

Heavy rainfall with flooding will be the main threat with Bertha throughout the rest of today in an area from northeastern South Carolina into southeastern and eastern North Carolina.

Gusty winds and rough seas will affect the coastlines of the Carolinas and Georgia as well.

The center of Tropical Storm Bertha will move onshore near eastern Charleston County, South Carolina by about 11 am Eastern Time this morning and rapid weakening is then expected.

It will have no impact on Alabama’s weather.
