Strong Storms Continue to Slowly Drift Across the Southern Locations in Central Alabama

| July 3, 2020 @ 4:05 pm

At just before 4:00 pm, we continue to have several thunderstorms moving very slowly across the southern half of Central Alabama, some of which are producing gusty winds up to 40 MPH. One of those stronger storms is located over the western parts of Lake Martin and just east of Equality and moving slowly to the northwest at 15 MPH. Heads up if you are located in Equality, Highway 9 and Highway 22, Eastern Lake Martin, Cottage Grove, Nixburg, Kowaliga Bridge, Western Lake Martin, Southern Lake Martin, Northern Lake Martin, Fishpond, and Ray.

We also have a cluster of storms over the western parts of Lamar County and over into Mississippi that is moving slowly to the southwest and should be out of the county within the next 30 minutes.

While there is no formal threat of severe storms today, we may get one or two to pulse briefly into a strong or severe storm with gusty to damaging downburst winds being the issue. Other than that, you can expect any of these storms to put down a good bit of rainfall and plenty of dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning. If you hear thunder, go indoors immediately as you are close enough to the parent storm to be struck by lightning.
