Storms Over West, North Alabama

| July 12, 2020 @ 9:23 am

We are monitoring two areas of storms this morning in Alabama.

The first is over the northwestern part of the state where heavy thunderstorms cover parts of Lauderdale and Colbert Counties, extending across northern Limestone and into northwestern Madison County.

This activity is slowly sagging southward even as individual cells are pushed eastward by the upper flow.

Additionally, a line of storms has formed over eastern Mississippi in better instability and that line is now into West Alabama, including parts of Colbert, Franklin, Marion, Lamar, and Pickens County. This activity will push into Winston, Fayette, and Tuscaoosas Counties in the next hour.

None of the storms are severe, but the stronger ones could produce 40 mph winds gusts, penny-sized hail, and very heavy rain. They are producing lots of lightning.
