Much of Central Alabama Dry at Midday, Some Scattered Showers Over Northeast Alabama

| July 18, 2020 @ 12:42 pm

As of 12:22 pm, we have some scattered showers and storms that have formed over the extreme eastern and northeastern parts of Central Alabama and up into the eastern parts of North Alabama. A few isolated showers have also formed down in the extreme southeastern parts of Central Alabama as well. At this point, they are not strong, but they look to be decent rain producers. All of the activity is drifting very slowly to the west. The rest of Central Alabama remains dry at this point.

Temperatures as of the 12:00 pm Round-Up were in the upper 80s to the lower 90s across the area. Birmingham was at 93 degrees, tied as the hot spot with Tuscaloosa. Alexander City was the cool spot at 88 degrees.

Hot and humid are the words for the day and we’ll have a slight chance of isolated to scattered afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms across Central Alabama, with a higher probability for those to occur over the eastern locations. Highs will top out in the lower to mid-90s for most with even hotter temperatures expected down in the extreme southeast corner of the area. Rain chances will diminish throughout the evening hours and we’ll be left with mostly clear skies for the late night and overnight hours. Lows will be in the lower to mid-70s.

Much of the same story for Sunday… A good bit of sunshine early with skies becoming partly cloudy by afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible with overall chances remaining low at this point. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s.

Tropical cyclone formation is not expected during the next 5 days across the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico.
