While Counties Have Benn Removed From the Tornado Watch, Small Tornado Threat Continues

| October 10, 2020 @ 4:32 pm

SUMMARY…The threat for brief tornadoes will continue into the early evening as convection spreads slowly eastward.

DISCUSSION…At 3:45 pm, a band of convection continues across eastern AL into western GA. Weak rotation has occasionally been noted with the stronger discrete cells. While instability remains weak across the region (MLCAPE generally less than 500 J/kg), 0-1 km SRH of 200-400 m2/s2 will support a brief tornado threat with the stronger convective elements, especially with any discrete elements in closer proximity to the effective warm frontal zone, where low-level flow remains backed. Some threat may spread slightly east of the watch with time, as additional development occurs ahead of the main convective band. Local watch extension may be needed at some point depending on the intensity of any new development.
