Freeze Warnngs, Frost Advisories Issued for Central Alabama for Tonight

The NWS in Birmingham has posted freeze warnings and frost advisories for parts of Central Alabama tonight as high pressure over Kentucky settles in tonight leading to clear skies and calm conditions.

Lows tonight will reach as low as 30 degrees across parts of the area. Many areas will experience a freeze, and there will be a widespread frost. Normally colder locations will be in the middle and upper 20s.

The NWS in Huntsville has stopped issuing front and freeze products since there has already been a killing freeze over their counties. Most locations in the Tennessee Valley counties will be at or below freezing tonight.

WEDNESDAY…

* WHAT…Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected.

* WHERE…Lamar, Fayette, Jefferson, Shelby, Talladega, Clay,
Randolph, Coosa, Tallapoosa and Chambers Counties.

* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 8 AM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other
sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor
plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent
freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should
be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have
in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-
ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

* WHAT…Temperatures as low as 33 will result in frost
formation.

* WHERE…Portions of central, east central, southeast and west
central Alabama.

* WHEN…From midnight tonight to 8 AM CST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS…Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if
left uncovered.
