A Quick Check on Our Wintry Precipitation Just Before 4:00 pm
Plenty of reports of sleet, snow, and graupel are coming in from across the northern parts of Central Alabama this afternoon, but the good news is that air temperatures are above freezing and the street-surface temperatures are well above freezing at this point. No travel issues are expected.
Just over 20 minutes ago, I have sleet and graupel falling hard enough to cover my hat within a minute after I stepped outside. Some locations may actually see accumulations (dusting) on elevated surfaces up in or around Union Grove, Arab, and Somerville in northeast Alabama, but no road impacts are expected.
