Isolated Showers

A couple of isolated showers have developed in a minor area of convection that extends from west of Gadsden through the Birmingham Metro area to near and north of Tuscaloosa.

A few showers have been forming between Lake View and Montevallo, pushing southeastward in the northwesterly flow aloft.

The precipitation has developed as a result of strong surface heating and cooler air aloft, which has led to the instability.

82F was the high from the hourly observations at the Birmingham Airport today. Lows tonight will drop to near 60F on average, with a few 50s in the normally cooler spots. This will be about 10 degrees below normal for late August.

We will be in the neighborhood of record lows tonight and tomorrow night. Birmingham’s record for 8/23 is 54F. The record for 8/24 is 57F.
