Looks like we are in an in-between day today. A weak front will be traversing the area, however, the main punch will come tomorrow with showers likely followed by drier and cooler air – again. Yes, this has certainly been an unusual summer for us in Central Alabama – not your typical summer in the South! And that is just fine by me. Makes the summer more bearable!

An isolated shower or two is possible today since we have low level moisture. The moisture was certainly visible this morning in the form of low stratus and fog. That should lift and we should see some sun today with a high in the upper 80s. Our upper closed low is now out of here as it is combining with a surface low to absorb Danny off the North Carolina coast. NHC has discontinued advisories on Danny since the Hurricane Hunters were unable to find a center or wind strong enough to classify it as a tropical storm.

The second front is forecast to move across the area Sunday and Sunday night and should produce good rain chances. Rainfall amounts will be in the half to one inch range, but because of the convective nature of the rain, some folks could get much less. A small shower yesterday afternoon produced slightly more than half an inch at my house.

The upper pattern gradually weakens after a couple of cool mornings for the first half of the week. But with drier air in place, we should be rain free. Toward the end of the week, moisture returns so we could see showers back in the forecast.

The GFS reverses the pattern in the early part of the voodoo period with a strong trough in the west. That gradually changes as the trough weakens and heads east bringing a pretty good chance for rain around the 10th of September.

Tropics have really been strange with Danny essentially becoming absorbed into a frontal low just off the coast of North Carolina. An disturbance was located in the south central Atlantic and has a fair chance of becoming our next named system as it moves into an area where conditions are more favorable for development. It appears at the moment that this one could take a track similar to the last couple of storms just north of the Leeward Islands.
