DRIER AIR SLOWLY MOVES IN: We note some fog in spots this morning, but once that burns off the day will be very pleasant with a partly to mostly sunny sky and lower humidity values across our state. Most places will see a high only in the low 80s, amazing comfortable for the last day of August.

TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY: With a surface high to the north, and low pressure to the south, a low level easterly flow will set up for these two days. This will bring in some moisture from the east, a few showers could show up in this kind of regime. I honestly don’t think it rains much, but the NAM is printing 0.11″ here, and I think we have to respect that idea. So, expect a mix of sun and clouds with some risk of widely scattered showers tomorrow and Wednesday with highs in the low to mid 80s. The easterly flow means it won’t be as cool as we thought last week, but we will be close to 60 tomorrow morning, with 50s for the cooler spots.

THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: For this four day period looks rain-free, with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs in the mid 80s; lows in the 60s. Rain won’t be a problem this week for high school football games around here.

TROPICS: The wave east of the Lesser Antilles sure looks good this morning, and seems like a tropical depression to us. Most likely this becomes Tropical Storm Erika sooner than later; it will move northwest, generally north of the islands, during the next few days. Too early to determine if this will recurve harmlessly into the open Atlantic, or be a threat to the East Coast of the U.S.

A major eastern Pacific hurricane, Jimena, will move into the Baja California peninsula later this week, with the moisture ultimately headed for the Southwest U.S. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

LONG RANGE: Still no sign of any Gulf of Mexico tropical issues through mid-month. The GFS shows a long wave trough over the Central U.S. around September 15 which would set up a wet period here, but we all know that is out in voodoo land. See the Weather Xtreme video for more long range ideas.
