The tropical wave near the Cape Verde Islands is one of the most impressive to move off the African Coast this season.

It does have a circulation and thunderstorm activity, but is not quite organized enough on satellite for the NHC to classify it at a tropical depression just yet.

It’s not far away however, and look for that to happen later today. It will go on to become Tropical Storm Fred fairly quickly.

Not to be confused with 1979’s Frederic, which devastated the Alabama coast that year on September 12th. Frederic’s name was retired after his category three rampage. This is the F Storm from the same list however.

Fred should stay east of the islands and U.S.
