Another Brief Check on Our Weather Prior to 3:00 am; Enhanced Risk Up for Parts of the Area on Friday

| April 8, 2021 @ 2:41 am

While we have had a few strong storms earlier with gusty winds, the activity has stayed below severe criteria so far on this very early Thursday morning. The line currently stretches from Scottsboro and Huntsville, down to Cullman and Double Springs, and down to Winfield and Fayette.

There is another section of showers and storms that has separated from the main line stretching from Eutaw down to Livingston and on down into Southwest Alabama and Southeast Mississippi.

No severe watches and warnings are in effect for Central Alabama at this time.

The updated Day 1 Severe Weather Outlook now has the level 1/5 Marginal Risk now for locations east of a line from Huntsville to Warrior to Linden. Isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and a brief tornado are possible across the risk area from 7 am to roughly 12 pm Thursday.

The latest Day 2 Severe Weather Outlook for Friday has much of Central Alabama in a level 2/5 Slight Risk for severe storms, mainly west of a line from Florence to Ashland to Troy. East of that, a level 1/5 Marginal Risk is up for the remainder of the area. We do see that the SPC now has included a level 3/5 Enhanced Risk for a small sliver of the western portions of the area, mainly for locations west of a line from Gordo to Eutaw to just west of Sweet Water. It now looks like all modes of severe weather will be possible, especially from a window starting around 11 am Friday morning to around 9 pm Friday night.

We’ll have more on Friday’s severe threat later today. Stay tuned.
