Flash Flood Warning for Parts of Jefferson County until 10:15 p.m.

Birmingham Fire has been called to do a water rescue at 8th Avenue and 31st Street North. The rain has diminished but high water will remain in some areas for a while.

Heavy rain is falling across the Birmingham area with lots of dangerous lightning as well.

The thunderstorm will slowly diminish over the next hour, but flooding will occur in some of the normal locations, Do not drive into standing water.

Turn around, don’t drown!

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for…
Southeastern Jefferson County in central Alabama…

* Until 1015 PM CDT.

* At 809 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain
have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE…Radar.

IMPACT…Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

Birmingham, Vestavia Hills, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Regions
Field, U.A.B. Campus, Five Points South, B.j.c.c., Legion Field,
Samford University, Birmingham Southern College, Cahaba Heights,
The Summit, Vulcan Park, Birmingham Zoo, Highland Park Golf Course
and Rickwood Field.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
