WARM AND MUGGY: Not much change in the weather for Alabama today and tomorrow; more like summertime with highs up in the mid 80s, maybe even upper 80s in spots. Intervals of sunshine, and the risk of a few scattered showers and thunderstorms. The most numerous ones should be over on the western side of the state, closer to the big upper level low over the middle of the nation.

THE WEEKEND: The ULL will open up and move east on Saturday; the 00Z GFS is a little more robust with this feature, and it should bring an increase in the number of showers and thunderstorms to Alabama as we begin the weekend. It won’t rain all day, but there could be some strong storms involved, and localized flooding problems are very possible due to the saturated soil. SPC has low end severe weather probabilities, and we will be watching the radar closely, especially around the big football venues. Drier air begins to arrive Sunday, and the 00Z GFS sure looks dry for the northern half of the state. If the 12Z run comes in with a similar look, we can take out that risk of a stray shower Sunday morning.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The chance of any one high school football stadium getting wet tonight and tomorrow night is about one in three, with the best chance coming over the western half of the state. We recommend taking rain gear just in case. Temperatures will be in the upper 70s at kickoff. Saturday, Alabama will host Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Showers and storms are likely during the game with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees. Then, Saturday evening Auburn will host Ball State at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Rain is likely at times during the game with a kickoff temperature in the mid to upper 70s. And, UAB is at Texas A&M Saturday night for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff; the weather at College Station will be mostly cloudy with only a slight risk of a shower during the game. The temperature should be in the low 80s at kickoff.

NEXT WEEK: A very nice chance to dry out. A secondary front moves through Monday, and it is doubtful that any significant rain will be generated by that. Finally, our weather will feel like fall Tuesday and Wednesday. The high will drop into the 70s on Tuesday, and we go down in the 50s by daybreak Wednesday. Some of the cooler valleys have a chance of reaching the upper 40s. We will stay dry Thursday; the 00Z GFS hints at some risk of rain by Friday or Friday night; see the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: Nothing happening across the vast Atlantic basin, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the week.
