A Sunny Sunday; More Tropical Mischief in the Gulf Soon
Morning clouds and fog burned off quickly on this August Sunday afternoon. Temperatures are responding nicely to the increased sunshine, climbing through the middle 80s in most locations.
A few cumulus buildups formed over Northeast Alabama and some scattered showers have developed there.
A few showers are developing over eastern Mississippi as well.
We will see more of those scattered showers and storms developing through the afternoon hours. Highs will top out near 90F.
Tonight will be partly cloudy, warm, and humid, with lows in the lower 70s.
Temperatures will be on the increase tomorrow and Tuesday with little if any in the way of showers and storms. Highs tomorrow will be in the lower and middle 90s, with middle and upper 90s Tuesday.
Luckily, this little heatwave will be short-lived, with near-normal readings returning by Wednesday.
TROPICS
We will be keeping a close eye on the potential for tropical development by late this coming week and next weekend from the western Caribbean into the Gulf of Mexico.
A tropical wave is expected to enter the eastern Caribbean by tomorrow and then traverse the Caribbean through the week. It will combine with a low pressure system moving northward and lead to potential tropical development in the western Caribbean or the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by about Thursday into Friday. Model guidance and especially the ensemble model guidance are very consistent in showing this.
The track into and through the Gulf of Mexico next weekend will depend on the strength and position of a high-pressure ridge over the eastern United States.
Ensemble guidance has a range of possible solutions, with some showing a landfall in eastern Mexico and others showing impacts on the Texas and Louisiana coast. Everyone along the Texas and Louisiana coasts will need to keep an eye on this potential.
If that wasn’t enough, guidance is also hinting at a second tropical system trying to develop in the Gulf of Mexico between September 2 and September 7.
Stay tuned.
