SOME REAL FALL WEATHER: Just walking into the office here at ABC 33/40 in Riverchase within the hour; you could feel the change coming. A fresh, gusty north breeze with rapidly lowering dewpoints. Our Polar front is through now, and the Decatur dewpoint has dropped to 42 degrees. That cool, dry air will overspread Alabama tonight, and the stage is set for the coolest weather so far this season through mid-week.

HOW COOL? The models are printing lows in the 50 to 52 degree range for Birmingham tomorrow morning, which sounds good to us. Of course, the cooler spots away from the city will see temperatures in the upper 40s easily. The coolest morning will come early Wednesday, with most places will wind up in the 45 to 49 degree range. We have to wonder if places like Valley Head up in Northeast Alabama (at the foot of Lookout Mountain) will reach 39. Surely not out of the question. Thursday morning will be cool again with potential for upper 40s. Of course, the air is as dry as a bone, so there will be no rain through mid-week.

NEXT RAIN: We are still looking at the next chance of rain Friday afternoon and Friday night with a passing cold front. Seems like the main window for showers and storms will come from about 12:00 noon through 12:00 midnight Friday, with potential for about 1/2 inch of rain (along with locally heavier amounts). The rain should end by daybreak Saturday.

THE WEEKEND: For now the weekend looks just fine; dry Saturday and Sunday with highs around 80. Could be our first rain-free Saturday in four weeks!

LONG RANGE: Some pretty crazy looking voodoo-land model output for mid-month; see the Weather Xtreme video for details…

TROPICS: Quiet as a mouse across the vast Atlantic basin.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 30 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can even listen here on the blog; look for the player on the top left. We will post tonight’s new episode by 11:00 p.m.
