Tropical Depression Strengthens Into Tropical Storm Kate

Satellite-derived wind data indicate that the depression (TD-10) has strengthened and is now Tropical Storm Kate. Maximum sustained winds are estimated to be 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts.

The intensity forecast in the upcoming 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC) advisory will be updated to reflect the change in the strength of the system.
