FALL IS IN THE AIR: Some quick observations around the state at 5:00 a.m….

Scrougeout (Skywatcher Vic Bell, just northeast of Gadsden) 45
Valley Head 45
Cullman Airport 46
Russellville 46
Fort Payne 47
Concord/Hueytown 47
Anniston 48
Trussville (J.B. Elliott) 49
Coker (Skywatcher Ronald Hughes, west of Tuscaloosa) 50
Birmingham Airport 51
Tuscaloosa Airport 52

J.B. will run down a full list of lows later this morning. Today, needless to say, will be spectacular with a deep blue sky and a high in the low to mid 70s along with low humidity. Tomorrow morning, most likely, will be a little cooler. Have to wonder if Valley Head can make it all the way down to 39. Could very well happen.

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY: SPC paints a very significant severe weather risk in the general area from Jackson and Memphis to Omaha Thursday; with probabilities up in the moderate risk range for places like Fort Smith and Tulsa. This is in response to a vigorous upper air system moving through the nation’s mid-section. We stay dry Thursday, but will be watching develops to the west with interest. That batch of showers and storms will move in here Friday; there is no formal severe weather risk, and moisture return and instability are questionable. But, no doubt the day will be wet at times with about 1/2 to 1 inch of rain statewide. The 00Z GFS is faster with the system, suggesting most of the rain will come in the 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. time frame, with the rain gone in time for high school football Friday night.

THE WEEKEND: Everything still looks dry for Saturday and Sunday, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Highs should be in the 70s with lows in the low 50s. Looks very nice.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS hints the next chance of rain will come around Tuesday of next week as a southerly flow sets up.

VOODOO LAND: The weather still looks pretty active around mid-month, with a strong storm system moving through here around October 13, followed by a sharp change to cooler. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

TROPICS: Not a thing happening across the Atlantic basin.
