And, up north we note observations like 23 degrees at Hayward, Wisconsin. The growing season is over for a number of places over northern Minnesota and Wisconsin as cold air takes over here in late September.

TODAY AND TOMORROW: More fantastic fall weather for Alabama with sunny pleasant days, and another clear, cool night tonight. We will be close to 50 by daybreak tomorrow, with more 40s for the cooler spots. While we enjoy the nice weather, a significant severe weather risk is unfolding tomorrow afternoon to the northwest of here, with the highest probabilities over Arkansas and Missouri. The main threat out there will be from damaging straight line winds, but a few tornadoes are not out of the question.

FRIDAY: The batch of showers and storms will move into Alabama on Friday; a few strong storms are possible, but it seems like instability values are too limited for a major severe weather problem. There is no formal severe weather risk defined anywhere on Friday by the SPC, but low end (5%) probabilities are over Alabama. We expect about one to two hours of rain during the midday hours Friday, with 1/2 inch of rain likely, along with isolated amounts to 1 inch. We believe the rain will be over in time for high school football games Friday night.

VERY NICE WEEKEND: The weather looks great for Saturday and Sunday; sunny days, clear cool nights. Highs in the low to mid 70s both days, with lows down in the 40s early Sunday. The dry weather should last into Monday, but showers will likely return by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

VOODOO LAND: The GFS still suggests a shot of sharply colder air at mid-month, with potential for snow as far south as Cincinnati, and upper 30s down into Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Both Alabama and Auburn are on the road this weekend, so here is an early look. For the Auburn/Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium Saturday evening (6:45 p.m. kickoff), the sky should be mostly fair with a kickoff temperature of 65 degrees, dropping into the 50s by the end of the game. Alabama plays Kentucky at Lexington (11:30 a.m. kickoff)… the sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 58 degrees, then rising in the low 60s through the game. We should also note UAB has a home game tomorrow night at Legion Field in Birmingham; they will host Southern Miss at 7:00 p.m. The weather will be dry and pleasant, although clouds will be increasing. The kickoff temperature will be near 73 degrees, falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.
