RAIN RETURNS FRIDAY: After another day tomorrow with a sunny sky, look for a quick round of showers and storms on Friday. The system that will bring the rain to our state has the potential to produce snow across parts of the Rocky Mountain states tonight, along with strong to severe storms over Kansas and Nebraska. Then, tomorrow, a more significant severe weather is centered over Arkansas, with the actual risk running all the way from Dallas to St. Louis. A few strong to severe storms could enter West Mississippi by tomorrow night.

For now, we still don’t any serious severe weather issues on Friday in Alabama, although a few strong storms are certainly not out of the question. The NAM is printing 1.02″ of rain for Birmingham on Friday, and the QPF from HPC is very similar. The main window for rain and storms will be from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday; we still believe most of the rain will be over in time for the high school football games Friday night.

OUR WEEKEND: Still looks wonderful, with sunny pleasant days and clear cool nights. Looks like highs mostly in the mid 70s, with lows in the 45 to 50 degree range.

NEXT WEEK: While Monday will stay dry, sufficient moisture could return by Tuesday for an afternoon shower, especially on the western side of the state. There will some risk of showers on Wednesday, and perhaps Thursday and Friday with a stalled front just north of Alabama. This could be a heavy rain pattern setting up for somebody across the Mid-South; perhaps along the I-40 corridor.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Both Alabama and Auburn are on the road this weekend, so here is an early look. For the Auburn/Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium Saturday evening (6:45 p.m. kickoff), the sky should be mostly fair with a kickoff temperature of 65 degrees, dropping into the 50s by the end of the game. Alabama plays Kentucky at Lexington (11:30 a.m. kickoff)… the sky will be partly sunny with a kickoff temperature near 58 degrees, then rising in the low 60s through the game. We should also note UAB has a home game tomorrow night at Legion Field in Birmingham; they will host Southern Miss at 7:00 p.m. The weather will be dry and pleasant, although clouds will be increasing. The kickoff temperature will be near 73 degrees, falling into the upper 60s by the final whistle.
