Radar Check at 12:35 p.m. with Update for Talladega

| October 3, 2021 @ 12:33 pm

Here is a quick check of the radar at 12:35 p.m.

Showers continue to move from southwest to northeast across Alabama. There are no storms in Alabama at this time, but there are a few lightning strikes just west of the Shoals in extreme Northeast Alabama.

This trend will continue through the afternoon hours. The heaviest rain is forecast by our collection allowing models to be over Northwest Alabama, with those heavy showers and some thunder sliding southeastward with time.

At Talladega, where the race will be starting soon hopefully, light rain has been falling at the track. The current batch is moving out. Showers over the Birmingham Metro area may clip the track in about an hour, but the rainfall won’t be heavy. Otherwise, the area upstream of the track is fairly empty of echoes.

But other showers will continue to form through the afternoon. Some of those will be heavy and lightning may accompany them.
